Cd8a, also known as cluster of differentiation 8 alpha, encodes a T-cell surface glycoprotein. CD8A is an important member of the T cytotoxic pathway-related genes and is crucial for the function of cytotoxic T cells, which play a vital role in the immune response against infected or cancerous cells. It is involved in various immune-related biological processes, and its study through genetic models can provide insights into immune regulation [1,3,4,5,6].
In bladder cancer, CD8A is a novel protective gene, highly correlated with T cells and Macrophages M1. Low CD8A expression is associated with immunotherapeutic failure and poor survival in advanced cancer patients on immunotherapy [1].
In clear cell renal cell carcinomas, enrichment of CD8A+ tissue-resident T cells was observed in a patient responsive to immune checkpoint blockade [2].
In hyperoxia-induced bronchopulmonary dysplasia, CD8A expression was down-regulated and was closely associated with immune cell infiltration, especially T cells CD8 and neutrophil [3].
In breast cancer, CD8A was down-regulated in metastatic lesions, and its high expression was associated with improved survival [6].
In conclusion, CD8A is essential for the function of cytotoxic T cells and immune-related processes. Through model-based research, it has been shown to be associated with various diseases such as bladder cancer, clear cell renal cell carcinomas, hyperoxia-induced bronchopulmonary dysplasia, and breast cancer. Understanding CD8A can provide valuable insights into disease prognosis and immunotherapy response.
