Adgrg7, also known as GPR128, is an adhesion G protein-coupled receptor (aGPCR) belonging to the ADGRG subfamily. aGPCRs play important roles in various physiological processes such as neurodevelopment, immune defence, and cancer [1,2,4]. However, the physiological role and regulation of Adgrg7 are not yet fully elucidated [3].
In a study on SARS-CoV-2 infection, the mRNA levels of Adgrg7 were upregulated in SARS-CoV-2-infected lung adenocarcinoma Calu-3 cells, and downregulation of Adgrg7 led to a decrease in the amount of newly released SARS-CoV-2 into the culture media and a reduction in its infectivity, suggesting its potential role in the viral infection process [2]. In breast cancer, high expression of Adgrg7 was significantly correlated with poor overall survival, indicating its possible involvement in breast cancer development [5]. Also, in uterine corpus endometrial carcinoma (UCEC), the expression level of Adgrg7 was significantly elevated, and high levels of it were associated with shorter overall survival and lower relapse-free survival, showing its potential as a prognostic marker and immunotherapeutic target in UCEC [6].
In conclusion, Adgrg7, an adhesion G protein-coupled receptor, has potential significance in multiple biological processes, especially in viral infection and cancer-related diseases. Studies on Adgrg7 in different disease models help to understand its functions and potential as a therapeutic target, providing insights for future disease treatment and prevention strategies.
