Ankrd13d, ankyrin repeat domain-containing protein 13D, may be involved in multiple biological processes. It contains ubiquitin-interacting motifs (UIM) and is part of the endocytic pathway, which plays a crucial role in various cellular functions [2,3].
Research has linked Ankrd13d to several diseases. In renal cell carcinoma, it was identified as a key immune regulator, mainly expressed in immune cells and positively correlated with Treg cell infiltration. Targeting it with immune checkpoints blockade might be a strategy for immunotherapy [1]. In Alzheimer's disease, rare variants in Ankrd13d were associated with the disease, its related phenotypes, and functional consequences [3]. It was also identified in relation to incident heart failure with reduced ejection fraction [4], and in Hispanic Americans, novel signals for arachidonic acid were found in/near the Ankrd13d gene [5,6]. Additionally, in clear cell renal cell carcinoma, it has a strong positive correlation with TRIM46 [7].
In conclusion, Ankrd13d appears to be involved in multiple disease-related biological processes, such as immune regulation in renal cell carcinoma, the endocytic pathway in Alzheimer's disease, and heart failure development. These associations suggest that Ankrd13d could be a potential biomarker or therapeutic target in these diseases, though further in-vivo studies like gene knockout (KO) or conditional knockout (CKO) mouse models are likely needed to fully understand its functions and roles in these disease conditions.
