Pgm5, also known as phosphoglucomutase-like protein 5, is a metabolic enzyme involved in the metabolism of glucose-1-phosphate and glucose-6-phosphate [2]. In prostate cancer, PGM5 expression was significantly lower in cancer tissue, and its low expression was linked to poor clinical outcome and high Gleason score. Overexpression of PGM5 repressed prostate cancer cell proliferation and migration in vitro [3].
In conclusion, Pgm5 appears to have potential importance in cancer biology, especially as a diagnostic and prognostic biomarker in liver, colorectal, and prostate cancers. These findings from various cancer-related studies suggest that further research using gene knockout (KO) or conditional knockout (CKO) mouse models could potentially provide more in-depth insights into its biological functions and its role in disease development, offering new possibilities for cancer diagnosis and treatment strategies.
