Lrrc37a is a gene located within the 17q21.31 locus. It is a membrane-associated protein that has been implicated in multiple biological functions. In terms of associated pathways, it may be involved in cellular migration, chemotaxis, and astroglial inflammation [2]. It also seems to play a role in the context of neurodegenerative diseases, making it of significant biological importance. Lrrc37a/2 was found to interact directly with soluble α-synuclein and co-localize with Lewy bodies in PD brain tissue, indicating its contribution to the association between the 17q21.31 locus and PD [2]. In progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), γ duplication within the 17q21.31 region up-regulates the expression of Lrrc37a/Lrrc37a2 in neuronal cells, and the copy number of γ is associated with the risk of PSP [3].
